ACT Coach Applications
Coach Applications for the 2009-2010 season are being accepted through April 25, 2009.
In order to support the ever changing needs for ACT Coaches we open Coach Applications each year. The Region Board encourages any interested party to submit an ACT Coach Application if you would like to be considered for the role of Assistant Coach or Head Coach for an upcoming team.
Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee placement as a coach. Unlike the core program, the ACT Program coaches are required to meet certain criteria which include, but are not limited to, the following:
Requirements for ACT Assistant Coaches:
- Must have a minimum of two full years (not seasons) coaching youth soccer
- Must have at least an AYSO U8 Coach Certification
- Must meet the AYSO Youth Volunteer background check approval
- Must have completed the AYSO Safe Haven Certification
- Must be willing to commit to a full year with the same team
- Must be committed to and abide by the AYSO Philosophies of Everyone Plays, Positive Coaching and Good Sportsmanship.
Requirements for Head Coaches:
All of the above plus:
- Must AYSO Coach Certification for the age group they are applying for, and if not, must be willing to obtain it within a reasonable amount of time (during the upcoming season).
- Must be willing to travel! ACT teams will have numerous opportunities to participate in tournaments which require travel.
- Must be willing to dedicate themselves to advancing their own knowledge, skills and certifications.
- Must be willing to work with and train an Assistant Coach (sometimes two).
- Must be organized, or able to delegate organizational team management tasks to someone who is.
In addition to these criteria, we are looking for individuals who:
- Enjoy coaching and are able to develop good working relationships with each player as well as other coaches and parents.
- Possess an ability to teach and train not only players, but also other coaches and parents as well.
- Display proficiency in the game of soccer.
Commitment
Serving as an ACT Coach requires a commitment of time, effort and passion. The time commitment requires, at minimum, one 2 hour practice per week and one 3-day tournament which takes place in June of each year (Section 5 Games). Additionally, coaches are responsible for organizing and running practices, overseeing the team on the field during games and evaluating players after each season.
Along with the "commitment" is the reward of seeing our players develop not only soccer skills but also as individuals and team players, both physically and mentally. AYSO promotes the ideals of player development and that is a goal we hope all coaches can help us accomplish.
If you have an interest in participating with the ACT Program in the capacity of coach (whether head or assistant), please complete the ACT Coach Application and return it no later than April 25, 2009.
