ACT Overview
The Advanced Competition Teams (ACT) Program is designed to offer the opportunity for avid, qualified youth soccer players in AYSO Region 722 to play at a higher level of competition in a manner consistent with the Philosophies and Principles of AYSO. As such, the ACT Program operates under the Bylaws and Regional Guidelines of the American Youth Soccer Association (AYSO).
ACT is an advanced play, secondary AYSO program that seeks to offer a high level of training at an economical cost, while maintaining a positive environment and guaranteeing playing time for every player that is accepted into the program.
AYSO endorses the concept of AYSO extended play programs, such as ACT, as long as certain elements are incorporated into the program. Those elements, and our implementation of them, are as follows:
- Everyone on a team plays
ALL ACT players play at least half of every game. In most cases players play three quarters of the game.
- The teams within an AYSO extended play league must be constituted with the goal of creating competitive balance.
ACT teams are balanced by both age and competitive levels. Individual players are selected based on skill.
- Selection to the teams must be based on open and impartial evaluations
ACT player selections begins with collective tryouts, open to all AYSO players, on an openly advertised date, time and venue.
- Administration and coordinator of the program must run through the appropriate AYSO Region, Area or Section
A regional board position has been created to administer the ACT Program. All team activities are coordinated through this position to ensure that safety and insurance requirements are met, conditions (elements) are satisfied, and player/team development remains focused on individual soccer skills, development as soccer players, and development as whole persons, over team desires to win.
- The program must meet appropriate standards for coach and referee training and certification as established by AYSO.
Coaches must participate in an application and selection process in which training and certifications are primary considerations.
- The extended play program may only be offered in conjunction with a core program.
ACT Players will participate in regular season play on balanced teams across the division. They may or may not be on the same team during the regular season.
